New pool and darts cafe set to open in Welsh town
A new sports equipment shop and café is set to open in the heart of Blackwood after receiving approval from local authorities.
Caerphilly County Borough Council's planning department has given the go-ahead for the transformation of a former amusement arcade located at 115 High Street.
Applicant David Milligan, representing The Social Bull Limited, explained his vision for the space as somewhere "where families and friends can come to our venue, relax, and play some pool and darts".
The facility will host darts competitions for youngsters under 18 while also featuring a function space available for private bookings and children's birthday celebrations.
During the consultation process the proposal attracted 22 letters backing the scheme with supporters describing it as something that would prove "an asset to the area" and help to "bring the community together".
Advocates highlighted that the new business would cater "be inclusive for all ages" while also "filling a gap in the market".
According to the planning documentation one objection was lodged with officials noting it raised worries about potential rivalry with another darts establishment operating within the borough.
However planning officers dismissed this concern stating it was "not a material planning consideration and the matter of competition is for the market to determine".
Conditional planning consent has now been granted for the development.
