Unexploded Device Found at South Wales Property as Police Urge Public to Stay Away
An unexploded ordnance discovered at a property in Baglan, Neath Port Talbot, sparked an emergency response on Wednesday, with police closing nearby roads and urging the public to avoid the area.
The device — a term used for military explosives such as shells, bombs or landmines — was found at a residential address, prompting South Wales Police to put safety measures in place.
Roads closed as bomb disposal teams called in
Officers shut sections of Old Road and Thorney Road, from Baglan Lodge care home to Crawford Road, while specialists assessed the device. A cordon remained in place for a short time as a precaution.
Residents were asked to keep clear of the area and plan alternative routes while the incident was dealt with.
A police spokesperson said:
“Parts of Old Road and Thorney Road, Baglan, have been closed as a safety precaution following the discovery of an unexploded ordnance at a nearby property. Please keep clear of the area while officers attend to this incident.”
Controlled detonation carried out
Bomb disposal teams carried out a controlled detonation, allowing the roads to reopen shortly afterwards.
Police later confirmed:
“The road has now reopened following a controlled detonation.”
No injuries were reported, and the incident is now resolved.
