Swansea City midfielder set for talks over future as pre-season plans take shape

Cooper returned to the Swans earlier this season following a loan spell at , but has struggled for regular game time since his recall. The Wales international has largely been limited to appearances in matchday squads, making just a single outing from the bench.

With his current contract set to expire next summer, uncertainty remains over whether the midfielder will stay at the club beyond the upcoming transfer window.

Speaking about the situation, Matos praised Cooper’s attitude despite limited opportunities.

“Ollie is a brilliant professional,” he said. “He came in during a difficult situation with his loan and returning to the club, knowing there are a lot of players in his position.

“His professionalism is outstanding. He trains every day with the same behaviour and the same passion. That gets all my respect.”

However, the Swansea boss acknowledged that competition for places in midfield has restricted Cooper’s chances.

“Of course we need to speak about his future,” Matos added. “We need to see what is best for him and best for the club. That is something we will take care of internally.”

Pre-season plans confirmed

Meanwhile, Matos also revealed that Swansea are preparing for a pre-season training camp in as they build towards the new campaign.

The squad will begin preparations in Wales before travelling abroad, where they are expected to play a number of friendly fixtures.

“I think it’s confirmed already,” Matos said. “We’ll start pre-season here and then go to Austria for a training camp before returning.

“The dates for the games are not confirmed yet, but of course there will be matches there.”
