Emergency services rushed to a busy Tesco Extra on Sunday with all shoppers forced to leave. The incident happened at the Tesco Extra in Holyhead on Anglesey at 1.20pm on Sunday afternoon, December 21.

Stunned shoppers were informed they must leave over the tannoy while multiple fire crews attended the supermarket. One eyewitness, Dan Montgomery, said: "Everyone was evacuated after hearing a loud bang and then fire alarms went off.

"Everyone was told to drop their items and leave the shop. I was scanning a jumper for my Mrs Christmas on the self scan. We just had to drop everything and walk out."

A spokesperson for Tesco said the store has since been able to reopen again safely. They said: "Crews from Holyhead were called to an incident at Tesco, Holyhead, at 1.20pm on December 21.

"On arrival there was no fire, however an issue was identified with a refrigeration unit on the roof. A full investigation was carried out and the store was able to reopen safely."
