Swansea roundabout closed again after torrential downpour

  • Swansea council has closed Cwmbwrla roundabout today, Monday, December 15 due to the heavy rain overnight and rising water levels in the area. The roundabout has been closed since 5.25am this morning.
  • The roundabout in Swansea has closed multiple times this due to wet weather and storms Wales has experienced this year. In September people were seen swimming, fishing and paddle boarding on the submerged roundabout.
  • Swansea Council informed residents of the closure saying: "Due to heavy rain and rising water levels on the road surface in and around the roundabout at Cwmbwrla, we have had to close the roundabout. We will continue to monitor the position and update you when we have further information. In the meantime, please drive carefully in Swansea this morning."
  • Parts of South Wales have been affected by severe weather with several flood warnings in place and more than 41 flood alerts active
  • There is currently a Met Office amber warning in place for a number of areas until 9pm on Monday, December 15. The places affected include: Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Carmarthenshire, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Neath Port Talbot, Newport, Pembrokeshire, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Swansea, Torfaen and Vale of Glamorgan
  • There is already flooding in Briton Ferry, where residents are reporting two foot high waves that are being caused by passing traffic
