Good Morning Britain's Laura Tobin issued a "danger to life" warning whilst covering the latest weather developments.

Large swathes of the UK are bracing for powerful winds and torrential rainfall as Storm Chandra hits. It follows a string of storms that have brought widespread disruption and damage in the country.

During Tuesday's (January 27) instalment of the breakfast programme, weather presenter Laura delivered a warning, saying: "We have hundreds of flood warnings and flood alerts in force across England and Wales, particularly the south west of England, but we now have one severe flood warning."

She told the ITV programme's Ed Balls and Susanna Reid: "And when you have a severe flood warning that means danger to life and it means act now."

"And that is just coming to force within the last 10 minutes so that is in the River Otter... the river level has peaked at 2.82 metres and that is the highest it has ever peaked.

"It is one centimetre above their record and they say 2.7 metres and that part of the world is enough to stop the flood properties so we are seeing the rain now falling."

Outlining the forecast ahead, Laura warned that conditions were "not going to stop for the rest of the day, so the south west of England, which is where we have our amber weather warning in force, is where the heavy rain is going to continue".

"The ground is saturated from all the wet weather we've had so far this year and the rain has nowhere to go other than to be bursting banks of rivers and flooding properties and businesses.

"So it's set to get worse as we head through the day," she continued.

Discussing the naming of the recent storm, she explained: "Normally we name the storm because of the strong powerful winds.

"This time we are naming it because of how heavy the rain is set to be and how relentless it is as well."
