Fireworks Thrown at Police as Angry Mob Gathers Outside Paedophile’s Home
A violent stand‑off erupted outside the home of a convicted paedophile in Moray, Aberdeenshire, with fireworks and flares hurled at police as crowds gathered for several nights in a row.
The disorder unfolded outside a semi‑detached property on Well Road, Buckie, where locals first appeared on Sunday, March 29. By Monday, a larger group had assembled, chanting “Get the beast out now!”. The situation escalated further on Tuesday as more people arrived, leading to a tense confrontation with police that continued into the early hours of Wednesday.
Riot vans vandalised and fireworks launched at officers
Footage from the scene showed flares and fireworks being thrown towards officers and the property, with riot vans vandalised during the unrest. Dozens of officers equipped with shields and batons were deployed to regain control.
Police confirmed a 45‑year‑old man had been arrested and charged in connection with the disorder and possession of an offensive weapon. He is due to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on April 2.
Occupant removed from property for safety
It is understood the man living at the address — a 44‑year‑old recently convicted of possessing child abuse images, including Category A material — was removed from the property by police in the early hours of Wednesday.
He had pleaded guilty and was placed on the sex offenders’ register for three years.
Police condemn ‘utterly unacceptable’ violence
Chief Inspector Mike McKenzie, Local Area Commander for Moray, said officers faced “horrendous levels of aggression”.
“A number of items including flares and fireworks were thrown at officers and police vehicles were vandalised. This is the third such incident since the weekend, but the first to descend into violent disorder.
This behaviour is utterly unacceptable and posed a serious risk to neighbouring properties. We are thankful there were no serious injuries.”
He confirmed further inquiries are underway to identify everyone involved, including reviewing extensive video footage.
Police presence to remain
Officers will continue patrolling the area in the coming days, with police working alongside partner agencies to address community concerns.
