Victoria Beckham's letter features honest confession that sums up Brooklyn heartache
A letter Victoria Beckham once penned to her younger self regarding Sir David has provided a new angle to the deepening conflict between the famous pair and their son, Brooklyn.
Just last week, the oldest Beckham child took to social media to openly bash his mother and father, labelling them "controlling" and claiming they sought to "ruin" his connection with his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham.
His outbursts follow years of growing friction in the family, with Brooklyn and Nicola at the centre of it. Plenty of attention has focused on David and Victoria's obsessive care for their public persona and the growth of 'Brand Beckham', causing some critics to argue that appearances and status have been valued more than family harmony.
However, a note written by the ex-pop star for British Vogue, looking back at her first encounter with her future husband in 1997, provides a different outlook. Instead of being vanity-driven, it hints that family ties and shared beliefs have always anchored the Beckham parents.
"It will happen to you in the Manchester United players' lounge. Although you will get a little drunk, so exact details are hazy," Victoria wrote.
"While the other football players stand at the bar drinking with their mates, you will see David standing aside with his family. (He's not even in the first team at this stage - you are the famous one.) And he has such a cute smile.
"You, too, are close to your family, and you will think how similar he feels to you. He's going to ask for your number. (He still has the London-to-Manchester plane ticket on which you wrote it.)"
The romance between Brooklyn and Nicola began in 2019. They got engaged in 2020 before finally saying their vows in 2022. While things seemed friendly at the start, trouble started brewing just before the nuptials.
A primary cause of the clash is widely thought to involve the drama over Nicola's wedding dress. It is understood she originally intended to sport a dress created by Victoria's fashion house, before ultimately choosing a tailored Valentino piece for her walk down the aisle.
Brooklyn has claimed that his mother "cancelled making Nicola's dress at the eleventh hour... forcing her to urgently find a new dress." He also asserted that on the night before the wedding, family members told him Nicola was "not blood" and "not family."
The wannabe cook further accused Victoria of "hijacking" his opening dance with Nicola at the party, before purportedly acting "inappropriately" on the dancefloor - movements he says made him feel "uncomfortable" and "humiliated." This past Friday, wedding DJ Fat Tony provided more details on the event.
"There was no sl*t-dropping, there was no black cat PVC catsuits, there was no Spice Girl action," he said during an appearance on ITV's This Morning. "[Pop star] Marc Anthony was performing, and he called Brooklyn onto the stage. Everyone then expected Nicola to go up and do the first dance."
He clarified that Anthony thereafter invited the "most beautiful woman in the world" to join Brooklyn on the dancefloor before saying Victoria's name instead of the bride's. "Brooklyn was devastated as he thought he was about to get his first dance with his wife," he added.
"Nicola had left the room crying her eyes out, and Brooklyn is stuck there on stage. They then do this dance, and Marc goes, 'Put your hands on your mother's hips' and it was a Latin thing. The whole situation was very awkward for everyone in the room."
Talk of domestic strife started spreading shortly after the event - and while efforts to silence those claims through many shared public outings helped, the situation peaked in 2025 when Brooklyn and Nicola opted not to attend David's 50th birthday bash.
Some months later, David and Victoria were noticeably missing from Brooklyn and Nicola's vow renewal, indicating a massive gap. Later that year, Brooklyn was absent when his dad was formally knighted.
A few weeks after that, news broke that Brooklyn had blocked his parents and siblings on social media and sent a letter to David and Victoria insisting that all future communications happen via his legal team.
