Swansea City seal loan move for £10m-rated Premier League winger
Swansea City announce the signing of Gustavo Nunes

Swansea City have sealed a move for Brentford winger Gustavo Nunes on loan.

Nunes has become the second signing of the January window, following on from the arrival of Joel Ward on a free transfer.

The winger has been on the periphery of the Bees first team this season, but has been featured in two matchday squads in the Premier League.

He racked up three top-flight appearances for the club last term, but will now link up with the Swans for the second half of the current campaign.

The Swans have been keen on adding to their wide options in this window, and had previously looked at a deal Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, while Liel Abada was another name to have also been considered.

However, they have now landed on Brazilian Nunes, who signed for Brentford in a £10m deal from Brazilian side Gremio in 2024.

Quizzed on what his latest recruit might bring to the Swans, Vitor Matos said: "He's really good in the one-v-one. He has creativity.

"A lot of Brazilian swag if you want to say that. The Championship is something that is different for him. He knows that as well.

"He understands now the difference between the two competitions.

"It's now about getting the best out of him. He can play on the left and play the right, but really good in terms of first touch and dribbling. So we're really happy with that."

In total, Nunes made 20 appearances for Gremio in the Brazilian top flight, netting three goals and earning one assist.

His start at Brentford was initially hampered by injury, but he finally made his first appearance for the club as a late substitute against Arsenal, making two more cameos that season.

The 20-year-old signed a six-year deal with the Bees, and is believed to be highly rated at the Gtech Community Stadium.

It's understood he trained with his new team-mates on Thursday, and could well be in line to be involved for the trip to Hull City.

The capture of the Nunes will likely prompt further questions over Burnley loanee Manuel Benson, whose immediate future remains uncertain.

Meanwhile, club insiders have now dismissed talk of a move for Elfsborg forward Jalal Abdullai, despite claims in Sweden the club were weighing up a possible £2m bid.

The 21-year-old was identified as a possibility in this window, with Preston and QPR also both taking notice, but it's understood Swansea won't be firming up any interest.

Suggestions of a move for Sheffield Wednesday forward Bailey Cadamartari are also believed to be wide of the mark.
