ITV Hit by Major Audio Glitch Ahead of Carabao Cup Final at Wembley
ITV’s build‑up to the Carabao Cup final between Arsenal and Manchester City was thrown into chaos after a significant audio failure disrupted their pre‑match broadcast.
The two sides meet at Wembley in the first major final of the season, with Arsenal booking their place after overcoming Chelsea in the semis, while Manchester City saw off 2025 champions Newcastle to reach Sunday’s showpiece.
But roughly an hour before kick‑off, ITV viewers were left confused as the channel suffered a technical fault that wiped all sound from its coverage. With the issue unresolved, ITV were forced to lean on Sky Sports’ pre‑match feed for both their TV broadcast and their ITVX live stream.
Sky presenter Mark Chapman and Arsenal icon Ian Wright were fronting the build‑up — but on ITV’s platforms, their analysis was completely silent.
As the problem persisted, ITV issued an on‑screen apology to viewers, acknowledging the disruption less than an hour before the teams walked out at Wembley.
> “We apologise for the audio disruption,” the message read.
Fans quickly took to social media to vent their frustration — and, in some cases, poke fun at the situation.
One viewer wrote: “Interesting choice from ITV to broadcast the League Cup final with no sound.”
Another added: “Really excited for Arsenal vs Man City… shame ITV forgot to check the audio.”
A third joked: “No commentary today lads — subtitles only.”
And a fourth quipped: “If Gary Neville was on commentary, I’d be fine with ITV leaving it muted.”
ITV and Sky are sharing broadcast duties for this year’s competition, with both networks scheduled to show the final live from Wembley — audio issues permitting.
