Huge fire breaks out at popular burger restaurant

A popular fast-food chain has appealed for information after an alleged arson incident outside its flagship restaurant in Port Talbot. The fire occurred outside Burger Boyz on Commercial Road shortly after midnight on Tuesday, March 10.

According to the restaurant, an unknown individual is believed to have deliberately set fire to rubbish bins at the back of the premises. The blaze was reported quickly by nearby neighbours at Lunacy Boutique, who alerted emergency services before the flames had a chance to spread further.

The restaurant thanked the neighbouring business for their quick action which helped prevent more serious damage.

CCTV footage that has since circulated on social media appears to show a woman standing next to the bins as the fire begins. The individual is described as having dark hair tied back with a scrunchie and looks to be holding up a phone, while the flames start.

Further footage later shows the woman walking away from the scene wearing black heeled ankle boots, skinny jeans and carrying a small sparkly bag, which hangs from her shoulder.

Pictures shared online also show the aftermath, including piles of burned cardboard, melted plastic and scattered cans across the enclosed area.

In a public appeal, Burger Boyz asked anyone with information about the incident to come forward. The restaurant added that the individual appeared to record the fire on their phone, raising the possibility that the footage may have been shared with others.

"If anyone has information on who set our bins on fire in Port Talbot at midnight (Tuesday, March 10), please reach out," the business said in a statement.

South Wales Police confirmed officers were made aware of the incident through the fire service. A spokesperson from the force said: "Officers have been made aware, through the fire service, of a rubbish fire on Commercial Road, Port Talbot, which is believed to have been set deliberately in the early hours of Tuesday, March 10.

"No injuries were sustained due to the fire. Officers are currently reviewing CCTV in order to identify a suspect."
