Full list of roads shut by snow and ice in Wales
Snow and ice have blocked many major routes across Wales on Tuesday

A fresh round of snow and ice is continuing to cause major disruption on roads across Wales for a fourth day, with a number of key routes blocked on Tuesday, January 6, and others only just passable as drivers face difficult and hazardous conditions in several regions.

  • In Neath Port Talbot, the A474 Pontardawe Road is blocked in both directions due to snow between Waun Penlan and Abernant Road in Cwmgors, with no through access currently available.
  • In Denbighshire, the A542 over the Horseshoe Pass remains blocked because of heavy snow between the Corwen and Wrexham turn-offs, while the A494 is also closed in two separate sections, between Llanbedr Dyffryn Clwyd and the Ruthin Road roundabout near Mold, and again between Corwen and the B5105 towards Ruthin.
  • In Conwy, the A548 is blocked in both directions due to snow between the Pentrefoelas turn-off at Llanrwst and Llanfairtalhaiarn, leaving no passable route along that stretch.
  • In Gwynedd, the A5 at Grisiau-Cochion is blocked because of snow between Braichmelyn and the Llanberis turn-off at Capel Curig, while several other routes in the county remain open but difficult, including the A458 near Mallwyd, the A470 between Llanelltyd and Trawsfynydd, the A4086 between Pont Pen-y-Benglog and Nant Peris, and the A4244 between Brynrefail and Rhiwlas, all of which are described as just passable.
  • In Carmarthenshire, the A483 is blocked in both directions due to snow between Cynghordy and Llanwrtyd Wells, while the A40 near Whitland is just passable between the Llanboidy and St Clears roundabouts, and the A477 at Red Roses remains just passable between Red Roses and St Clears.
  • In Pembrokeshire, the B4582 at Nevern remains closed because of a landslip between the A487 and the Moylgrove turn-off, a long-term closure that has been in place since November, while the A477 around Milford Haven is currently just passable between Sentry Cross and Johnston.
  • In Powys, The Road at Bettws Cedewain is blocked in both directions due to ice between the B4389 and Highgate at Cefn Mawr, creating hazardous conditions for drivers in the area.
  • In Swansea, Rhyddwen Road in Craig-Cefn-Parc remains closed because of snow between Rhyddwen Place and Clydach Road.
  • In Ceredigion, the B4338 continues to be closed in both directions due to snow between Synod Inn and the Cefn Hafod pub at Gorsgoch.
  • Drivers are being urged to avoid unnecessary journeys where possible, particularly in rural and higher-lying areas, and to check the latest travel updates before setting off as conditions may continue to change through the day.
