Residents living in fear on Welsh 20mph street where people keep crashing into cars and houses

Residents living on a street in Maesteg say they are considering moving away after a number of crashes in recent years.

People living on Ewenny Road say they are worried about speeding and road safety, despite the street being a 20mph zone.

Jon Brown, 30, said there have been several serious crashes on the road, with his own car hit twice and his partner’s car hit once since the start of the year.

He claims some drivers have been travelling at speeds of between 50mph and 60mph.

Mr Brown said the situation is especially worrying for families with young children.

He said his son is two years old and that he fears what could happen if people are outside when a crash occurs.

He also recalled an incident around six years ago where a car travelling at very high speed crashed into someone’s living room.

Residents say they have contacted the council and local councillors asking for action.

They are calling for safety measures such as speed bumps, cameras or anything that could help slow drivers down.

Mr Brown said the issue has become so bad that some residents had even considered asking the council how much it would cost to install a speed bump and paying for it themselves.

He said the problem is not the width of the street, but the speed of some drivers.

On Friday, Mr Brown said his partner’s car was hit by a 52-seater Adventure Travel coach.

He said being left without a car has caused frustration and stress, adding that the situation is becoming too much.

Mr Brown also said neighbours who have lived on the street for more than 25 years are now considering moving away.

Bridgend County Borough Council said it is aware of concerns about inappropriate and anti-social driving in the area.

A spokesperson said the council is actively considering what measures may be suitable and is also raising residents’ concerns with South Wales Police.

South Wales Police said it is aware of concerns about speeding on Ewenny Road.

The force said officers have active patrols in the area to tackle speeding.

Residents are being urged to report speeding or dangerous driving offences as soon as possible so police can investigate.
