King Charles hosts Harry, Meghan and children at Highgrove in private family reunion

King Charles and Queen Camilla have hosted Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and their two children at Highgrove House.

Buckingham Palace described the gathering at the King’s Gloucestershire residence as a private family occasion.

The visit marks the first time the King has seen Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet in more than four years.

It is also the first time Harry and Meghan have travelled to the UK together since 2022, when they attended the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

Royal commentator Jennie Bond has suggested the reunion could be an important moment in the relationship between Harry and his father.

Writing in The i Paper, the former BBC royal correspondent described the weekend as a potential “make-or-finally-break moment” for the pair.

She said a lack of trust remains one of the biggest issues between the Sussexes and the King.

Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020 before moving to America.

Since then, tensions have grown following the couple’s Netflix documentary and Harry’s memoir, Spare, in which he made a number of claims about life inside the Royal Family.

Despite the private meeting with the King, there are understood to be no current plans for Harry to meet his brother, Prince William, during the UK visit.

Jennie Bond also praised Princess Diana’s family for maintaining relationships with both Harry and William despite the ongoing rift between the brothers.

She said the Spencer family had quietly stayed on good terms with both sides and continued to support Harry, including during the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games.

The Highgrove meeting will now be seen by many royal watchers as a possible step towards repairing relations between Harry and his father.

However, the wider family divide, particularly between Harry and William, appears to remain unresolved.
