This Morning Guest Thought She Had Stomach Pains Until She Gave Birth in the Street
The professional dancer ended up giving birth outside of her home

A dancer who believed she was suffering from severe stomach pains was stunned to discover she was actually in labour — giving birth to her baby son in the street outside her home.

Katie Brown, 27, appeared on This Morning on Thursday (April 2) to share the extraordinary story with hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary. She explained she had no idea she was pregnant with her second child, having continued to experience normal periods throughout.

‘I thought I was having period pains’

Katie said she woke in the night with intense abdominal pain:

“I woke up and thought I’m having period pains, so I went and got some paracetamol, and then I couldn’t sit down.”

By 7am, the pain had become unbearable and she told her mum she needed to go to A&E. Her mother initially suspected appendicitis.

Katie called emergency services, who warned they couldn’t reach her for four hours — but after hearing her distress, paramedics arrived at 9.30am.

Baby born in the street

As they escorted her outside, events took a dramatic turn.

“They walked me out on the street and then I dropped to my hands and knees and he was born at twenty to 10. I’m on the street.”

Katie’s mum, who also appeared on the programme, said she caught her grandson’s head as she realised what was happening.

Dermot asked whether Katie recognised she was in labour at that moment. She admitted:

“No, I genuinely thought I was just having a massive poo. I thought something had happened to my bowels.”

A cryptic pregnancy

Katie said this was her second child, and her first pregnancy had come with all the usual symptoms — making this experience even more surprising.

Dr Zoe explained that Katie had experienced a cryptic pregnancy, which can happen for several reasons. Katie had been taking the combined contraceptive pill, which causes a withdrawal bleed during the seven‑day break, masking any missed periods.

Katie’s baby boy, named William, is now ten weeks old.

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV from 10am.
