Armed police rushed to a Welsh hospital on Thursday afternoon amid reports of an ongoing incident. Witnesses reported that the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend was placed into a lockdown during the incident with patients claiming they were told that no one is allowed to enter or exit the hospital.

South Wales Police said its firearms officers were sent to the scene shortly before 1.30pm to reports of threats made towards a person in the building.

A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of making a false report. 

A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said: "Officers were called to the Princess of Wales hospital at 1.20pm on Thursday (March 19) to reports of threats made towards a person in the building.

"Firearms officers attended and, following enquiries, a man aged 23 has been arrested on suspicion of making a false report."

A spokesperson Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board confirmed that the hospital is back open and operating as normal.
