Nigella Lawson has admitted she's concerned she might accidentally send contestants' creations crashing to the floor on Bake Off.

The celebrated TV cook - famously known as the Domestic Goddess - is replacing Prue Leith as judge on the Channel 4 programme, following Prue's decision to step down after nine series. She'll be joining Paul Hollywood on the judging panel when the show returns for its next run.

During an appearance on ITV's This Morning on Thursday (January 29), Nigella revealed she was grappling with some pre-show jitters, describing herself as the "clumsiest person in the world".

Speaking to presenters Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard about her new position, she said: "I'm a teeny bit frightened. I'd be lying if I didn't say that."

She added: "I mean, I am the clumsiest person in the world, you know, so as long as I don't knock any of their cakes off a table."

"I feel that I'm, I'm not someone who looks for fault, I look for pleasure," Nigella went on.

"That is my basic, I wouldn't say, I can't say it's a philosophy, but my basic attitude in life. And I feel Paul Hollywood is Mr Technical. I'm all about the eating. If I see my job of eating, I feel it's not so, it's not too daunting. I can eat."

Reflecting on following in the footsteps of both Prue and Mary Berry, she remarked: "Prue is just fantastic. And Mary Berry was fantastic before. So when I think about it like that, then I feel like, 'Oh no!' You know, I get really frightened.

"So I've just got to say that they have given me the honour of offering me this. And I just want to do it as well as I can."

Earlier this month, Prue revealed she was standing down from her role, posting on Instagram that it "feels like the right time" to move on.

She wrote on Instagram: "After nine series and judging more than 400 challenges, I have decided to step down as a judge on The Great British Bake Off."

Sharing photographs showing her alongside Paul and the show's hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding, she told her followers: "Bake Off has been a fabulous part of my life for the last nine years, I have genuinely loved it, and I'm sure I'll miss working with my fellow judge Paul, Alison and Noel and the teams at Love Productions and Channel 4.

"But now feels like the right time to step back (I'm 86 for goodness sake! ), there's so much I'd like to do, not least spend summers enjoying my garden. Whoever joins the team, I'm sure they'll love it as much as I have. I feel very lucky to have been part of it."
